First SRNT Latin America & Second Iberoamerican Conference on Tobacco Control
September 5th to 7th,
2007 |
 |
|
|
|
In 2004 the Society for Research on Nicotine and
Tobacco (SRNT) celebrated its 10th anniversary.
During its first decade SRNT grew from around 100
to over 900 members, sponsored well-attended annual
meetings and highly-influential satellite conferences
to promote research, provided timely electronic and
print services to increase the flow of information,
and founded a new peer-reviewed journal to facilitate
communication of scientific advances. During these
ten years considerable progress has been made in meeting
the objective of the society to stimulate new knowledge
about nicotine in all its manifestations- from molecular
to societal. . The Society currently has over a thousand
members, including many of the top experts on nicotine
and tobacco from over 20 countries around the world.
Following this encouraging first ten years of growth,
with membership concentrated in North America and
Europe, SRNT would like to make a greater effort to
support its aims in other regions of the world, including
Latin America. SRNT is now working towards this goal
with leading tobacco control experts in Brazil and
other countries, by organising the 1st SRNT Latin
America Conference
It is hoped that this meeting will serve as a focus
to encourage involvement in treatment, public health
science and policy development on tobacco use throughout
Latin America, and the meeting is already being enthusiastically
supported by many professionals throughout Latin America,
and by key organisations like SRNT Europe and the
Inter American Heart Foundation.
This event will be held in September 2007 in Rio de
Janeiro. A city known all around the world as the
" marvellous city", which amazes not only
for its beautiful sceneries and meandering geography,
but also for the easy going way of the cariocas, as
the people from Rio are known.
For sure, the city will welcome you with open arms
and unlimited attractions.
Rio
de Janeiro is an excellent city for combining learning
with fun.
Also, the Latin American version of the SRNT event
is honored to be held in parallel to the "
XIX Conference of the Brazilian Association on studies
on alcohol and other drugs" ( ABEAD).
The ABEAD's conference has been, over the last 20
years, the major event in the drug dependence field,
congregating professionals of all Brazilian states
and hosting the biggest international specialists
in this area.
For sure, nothing better to exercise multidisciplinarity
than two conferences happening at the same time.
You will also have the unique opportunity to circulate
freely at both events.
Undoubtedly, this event will be a wonderful opportunity
to increase your knowledge on tobacco and nicotine
research, smoking cessation, public policies and
all important issues regarding this subject. You
really can’t miss it!!!
